tdgwenandzoey asked: It's so great to read your rant on Doey. I really dislike it cause it makes both Duncan and Zoey look bad and creates a bad situation. It is also bad for Duncan because he already made a lot of mistakes and needs a girl who can show them to him and that's definitely not Zoey. Zoey would just let him do whatever he wants and repeat his mistakes. Courtney is tougher, she'll make him learn more. With Gwen he is going to feel more comfortable, but she still wouldn't let him do whatever he wants.
Wow, I didn’t think it would end up being such a big deal! But I agree.
I think even if Zoey disagreed with an aspect of Duncan or something he did, she wouldn’t be able to do much to actually change the behavior even if she wanted to.
And while Gwen is more forward about that sort of thing, she also tends to avoid conflict after a point. A lot of things she’d let him get away with, and when she disapproved of something she’d probably internalize it. She’d say something like “Wow, you’re an idiot” without actually telling him why. And then eventually that sort of thing would pile up and she wouldn’t be able to take it anymore, so she’d leave.
But yes. Courtney, while probably more aggressive than she should be, isn’t the type to let that sort of behavior slide by. And she is more supportive than people give her credit for, too. Both Courtney and Duncan are very stubborn, but are also very ‘give and take.’ Duncan will be like “NO, I don’t want to go to that stupid fancy party and wear a tux” but then would probably eventually budge after some coaxing. Just like Courtney at times does things that take her out of her own comfort zone. And only Duncan has actually been able to do that for her so far.
total drama has never had a girl/girl finale and that’s so devastating
Or a boy/boy
cameron and lightning?????
ring a bell???
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT DID YOU REALLY JUST SAY TOTAL DRAMA HAS NEVER HAD A BOY/BOY FINALE IM SORRY WHAT???????????????????????????????????????
NO PLEASE EXPLAIN BECAUSE I AM ACTUALLY CONFUSED
This whole time Lightning was actually being a huge hypocrite.
heatherserket asked: I'm so glad someone else mentioned that Duncan's more into girls with strong personalities! That's one of my main turnoffs from Doey, because Zoey's got a fairly weak personality, and not that anything's wrong with that, but it just seems like it'd bore Duncan a bit.
Yeah, totally! Duncan never really made that a secret.
I wouldn’t say Zoey’s personality is “weak”? Maybe just…more passive. A very different girl from Courtney or Gwen. Which is great! Not everybody is the same.
And yeah, I think Duncan would be bored by that. Because he’s the kind of guy who likes getting into arguments and causing trouble and seeing people riled up. Not necessarily someone who would apologize whether or not she was actually wrong.
Of course you can argue your part, I obviously respect your opinion a lot on this particular matter since it’s your creation! And I definitely see where you’re coming from.
There is absolutely zero wrong with wanting to see Duncan’s softer side. It’s played up in a lot- if not all of his ships. It makes people laugh and aww because it ISN’T characteristic of him to have a little blanket named Mr. Fufflebottoms. But he does. The difference to me is people taking Duncan as an exclusively sweet character who is just hiding behind a tough persona. Instead of having both qualities—but one being his personality (tough punk dudebro) and the other being a secondary kind of habit or instinct. His affectionate and kind gestures aren’t what define him. Even though his crying at the idea of hurting a budgie is simultaneously hysterical and endearing.
That said, I don’t know if Zoey would bring out his soft side MORE than anyone else did. Duncan was pretty mushy and gooey with both Courtney and Gwen. The difference here is that he never felt unhappy about being sweet until Zoey. And while Gwen would probably have teased him for being mushy had she been paying any attention, I think she’d do it in a shoulder-punch “you know I love you” sort of way. And Courtney is tough and hits that aggressive/argumentative type he likes…but she also very much values his softer side too? Like with Bunny, for example. And if she was calling him things like “Dunkie” they were obviously being dumb romantics behind the scenes. Even if there was three dozen gallons of bossiness and fighting mixed in too.
Those things are not meant to detract from Doey though? Because like I said, I think it’s great that people are enjoying it so much! It’s just to say that I don’t think Zoey would be some magical answer to all of Duncan’s problems—like Doey isn’t completely paving any new ground or anything? Because most of its aspects are things he was also getting elsewhere. Just in different fashions since they’re all different ladies. They were supportive, too.
Not that I’m dying to get involved in SHIP DEBATE or anything, but here are a lot of various points brought up for interested parties. As I said in my original, and previously singular post on the matter, my personal objection to Doey isn’t at all how it’s portrayed in canon, or even the most basic fandom version of it, but rather a section of the fandom’s interpretation of it that, whether it’s meant as a joke or not (and it def. seems like it’s more of a genuine interpretation than a joke??), is still bizarrely pervasive. Dude there are a lot of ways Doey could go and not all of them work for everyone, I definitely wouldn’t say anyone’s is “wrong,” since the ship itself is more or less entirely fan-made, but some are more grounded in canon than others.
(just ftr duncan might have made friends with that one cute bird but he also punched an alligator in the face a whole bunch of times. it’s a delicate balance apparently)
Please do not reboggle if you’re just trying to crease some shippers, both pro or anti!
sorry im just gonna cut off the top half of this and just speak about what you two said since this post is getting super super long haha;;
i do agree that courtney and gwen are very capable of bringing out a softer side to duncan as well. honestly, anybody he feels positively/affection/romance/etc towards is capable of bringing out his soft side. but im still under the firm belief that it would be much more emphasized with zoey because of the kind of person she is, also in comparison to courtney and gwen. not to say that courtney or gwen are terrible people, they have their moments of being sweet of course, but theyre also not the nicest people in the world either and can have an edge/can be mean when they want to. zoey is just all around sweet and kind and i believe duncan’s too good of a person to try and take advantage of that or anything
id also like to bring up that the season where he’s significantly the sweetest was tdas, and the reason for that was because he was surrounded by heroism/kindness constantly (he even stated this fact himself, “All this heroic kindness is making me go soft” or some variation of that), so it’s basically canon that he goes drastically softer when surrounded by sweetness
and zoey is supposed to be basically embodied sweetness so put two and two together and you get duncan going /extra/ soft for this girl he likes, which honestly is what made me go from laughing at doey to loving it haha;;
but that’s not to say that duncan would completely turn into the nicest man in the world because of this, because, well, that’s just not duncan. that would be boring if he completely dropped everything he was to turn into “total nice guy” because of the relationship. of course i still want duncan to be duncan, but id also like to see him in touch with his softer side often as well, and learning to not be ashamed of it, it’s just a nice little change for him, and it’s also nice to think about when i remember how unnecessarily assholish he would get at times, especially in tda
but again, i do believe that courtney and gwen can both bring out duncan’s soft side as well. i just believe that it’s even moreso with zoey. you dont have to agree with that notion, but tdas is just what’s making me believe it
and yeah, honestly doey is definitely up for a ton and i mean a ton of interpretation, especially since theyre both such flexible characters. if you dont like a certain fanon interpretation, it’s pretty simple to find something else. and it’s honestly another thing i enjoy about doey; there’s so much you can do with them, and it makes it easy to get creative.
(and yeah duncan has both protected animals and…borderline abused, if not just abused them. theyre both canon so pick your favorite i guess haaha)
Wow you’re not kidding though. This post is massive I’m actually going to put this behind a readmore too because it is just insane.
i was asked to post t…his….
(it’s from an old rp idea from literal years ago where several of the most popular contestants are asked back for what is presumably a reunion show but ends up actually being a hella haunted, booby-trapped night of thrills, chills, and light maiming. it must - it must have been late when i did this.)
YES OH MY GOD I LAUGH EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE THIS.
I can’t even understand what it would be like to see this out of context, though.
All I want is some good, in-character, literate paragraph-style Total Drama roleplaying. Is that so much to ask? I don’t even really care who the other person plays.
something that i really hate about all stars is the fact that they wasted an opportunity to make a scourtney alliance/rivalry instead of relationship . i mean it would have been pretty cool seeing them trying to be allies when they’re together and then trying to backstab each other when they’re not looking.
Wow okay. I even ship Scourtney and I can recognize that a lot of the ways I DO ship them in are gleaned from their characters and bios and not really from what was shown?
And the entire time I saw them interact I was like “Okay!…So when is one of them going to stab the other in the back somehow???”
And then it never happened. And I was disappointed.
What is more romantic than backstabbing to gain the upper hand in a competition, anyway?
